Department of Instruction
The Department of Instruction provides sound educational programs for students in all schools. Following are the major responsibilities of this department:
· Assists in identifying and designing curriculum, instruction,
and technology best practices.
· Motivates and communicates effectively with principals, teachers, students, and parents to encourage a supportive team environment.
· Assists principals and teachers in the implementation and maintenance of high standards: academic, curricular, instruction, and technology practices.
· Assists in developing and implementing data-driven district professional development plans.
· Assists in presenting professional development for administrators and teachers.
· Assists teachers in developing a broad range of methods to evaluate student learning.
· Reviews student assessment data and assist teachers in developing strategies for differentiating instruction to accommodate the learning styles of individual students.
· Understands the change process and clearly articulate this process to all stakeholders – students, staff, parents, administrators, Board, community, etc.
· Assists in nurturing a culture that encourages the concept of “leaders as learners” and the school district being a “community of learners.”
· Directs the district’s focus on excellence in all subject areas at elementary and secondary levels.
· Assists in assuming responsibility for the year-to-year textbook selection process as well as the curriculum content review and document development necessary to maintain continuity, scope, and sequence at elementary and secondary levels.
· Assists in working with principals to help each school improve in curriculum, instruction, and technology integration.
· Assists in coordinating the following programs and initiatives:
1. The Alabama State Department of Education programs, memoranda, meetings, and reports relating to curriculum, instruction and technology integration.
2. School curriculum meetings
3. Alabama Reading Initiative
4. Advanced Placement Programs (AP)
5. Career/Technical curriculum programs
6. Special education instruction and support/alternative school curriculum.
7. Written curriculum guide in all content areas.
· Works collaboratively with Directors and Principals to establish and maintain articulation between elementary, middle, and high school content areas and teachers in general.
