February is Black History Month:
Despite all the odds against them, the women below fought for their ambition and achieved their goal of being a female astronaut.
1. Valentina Tereshkova: first woman in space (1963),
2. Sally Kristen Ride: first American woman in space (1983)
3. Mae Jemison: first African-American woman in space (1992)
Thurgood Marshall was the first African American U.S. Supreme Court Justice, grandson of a slave. (1967)
Famous quote "None of us got where we are solely by pulling ourselves up by our bootstraps. We got here because somebody- a parent, teacher, an Ivy League crony or a few nuns- bent down and helped us pick up our boots."
